Summary

In Week 03 (January 18–24, 2021), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics continued to rise among children (+22%, or 4,064 procedures) for the third consecutive week; it remained stable among adults.

In Week 03, medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 across all age groups remained stable at a high level, with 2,796 procedures recorded (vs. 2,718 in Week 02, or +3%) and a share of 4.2% of total activity across all age groups (vs. 4.4% in Week 02). These procedures continue to rise among children (+25%, or +104 procedures) and remain stable among those aged 15–74 and those aged 75 and older. Suspected COVID-19 is the 6th most common diagnosis among children and the 4th among adults. Medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 are stable or declining in several regions, with the exception of PACA (+16%, or +59 procedures), Nouvelle-Aquitaine (+11%, or 35 more cases), Île-de-France (+6%, or 25 more cases), Hauts-de-France (+8%, or 19 more cases), and Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (+6%, or 18 more cases). Since the start of surveillance, 171,016 medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

Seasonal respiratory illnesses continue to rise among children, although they remain at levels significantly lower than in previous years. Significant increases are observed for ENT conditions (+36%, or 2,899 cases), acute bronchitis (+51%, or 371 cases), bronchiolitis (+43%, or 66 cases among children under 2 years of age), and asthma (+15%, or 46 cases). We also note increases in isolated fever (+19%, or +131 visits), vomiting (+21%, or +73 visits), and conjunctivitis (+24%, or +54 visits) among children. Among adults, visits for ENT conditions (12%, or 560 more visits) increased, as did those for malaise (+6%), asthma (+10% among those aged 15–74), and conjunctivitis (+8%) in moderate numbers.
