Summary

  • In week 49 (November 30–December 6, 2020), total activity at SOS Médecins clinics rose slightly among those aged 2–14 (+3%, or +395 visits) and those aged 75 and older (+3%, or +200 visits), and remained stable among those under 2 and those aged 15–74.

  • In week 49, the decline in medical procedures for suspected COVID-19 continued. This decline was observed across all age groups, with a more pronounced decrease among adults (-11%, or -233 procedures) than among children (-5%, or -17 procedures). Suspected COVID-19 is the fifth most common diagnosis among adults and the eighth most common among those aged 2–14.

  • In total, 2,152 cases were recorded (vs. 2,401 cases in week 48, a decrease of 10%). The share of total activity across all age groups also declined to 3.8% (vs. 4.3% in week 48). This decline, observed in most regions, is more pronounced in Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes (-22%, or 97 fewer cases), Île-de-France (-16%, or 61 fewer cases), Pays-de-la-Loire (-26%, or 31 fewer cases), and Hauts-de-France (-16%, or 31 fewer cases). However, an increase in tests with moderate case numbers was observed in Bourgogne-Franche-Comté (+13%, or +12 tests) and Grand-Est (+21%, or +39 tests).

  • Since the start of surveillance, 153,698 tests for suspected COVID-19 have been performed.

  • Among other conditions, there has been an increase across all age groups in seasonal respiratory illnesses (ENT conditions, bronchitis, pneumonia) and digestive disorders (acute gastroenteritis, diarrhea, vomiting) among children, also observed in the 15–74 age group, although levels remain significantly lower than in previous years for the same period across all these age groups. Among the most common conditions, there has been an increase in procedures for anxiety among adults, most pronounced among those aged 75 and older (+23.5%, or +43 procedures).
