Key Points
In Week 49 (December 2–8, 2024), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following such visits remained stable compared to the previous week across all age groups
Among respiratory indicators, there was an increase in emergency department visits for influenza/influenza-like illness among both children (+98%, or +760 visits) and adults (+64%, or +761 visits)
To a lesser extent, there was also an increase in visits for bronchitis across all age groups (+9%, or +197 visits), ENT conditions among children aged 2–14 (+7%, or +495 visits), and pneumonia among adults (+7.5%, or +759 visits). Among children under 2 years of age, visits for bronchiolitis have stabilized
Among other indicators, the following increases in visits are noteworthy:
for conjunctivitis across all age groups (+24%, or +213 visits)
among children for gastroenteritis (ages 2–14: +16%, or +220 visits), vomiting (+11%, or +144 visits), and isolated fever (+10%, or +405 visits),
among adults for isolated fever (+7%, or +58 visits) and among those aged 75 and older for gastroenteritis (+35%, or +57 visits)
