Key Points
In Week 14 (April 1–7, 2024), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups.
Across all age groups, there was an increase in visits for allergies (+12%, or +266 visits), conjunctivitis (+10%, or +106 visits), and dehydration (+25%, or +78 visits). The number of emergency room visits for measles remained stable in Week 14.
Regarding respiratory conditions, visits for influenza/flu-like illness continued to decline (-11% across all age groups). However, among a limited number of patients, there is still a slight increase in visits among adults for ENT conditions (+7%, or +236 visits), pneumonia (+6%, or +142 visits among those aged 75 and older), and asthma attacks (+10%, or +105 visits among those aged 15–74).
Among adults, there has been a slight increase in visits for acute gastroenteritis (+15%, or +192 visits).
Among children, the number of visits for viral meningitis has been higher than in previous years for the past three weeks (stable in Week 14 compared to Week 13); the number for scarlet fever has doubled among children under 2 years of age (24 vs. 12 in Week 13). Regarding mental health, there was a slight increase in suicide attempts (+7%, or 199 vs. 186 visits among children under 15).
