Key Points

  • In Week 14 (April 1–7, 2024), emergency department visits and hospitalizations following emergency department visits remained stable across all age groups.

  • Across all age groups, there was an increase in visits for allergies (+12%, or +266 visits), conjunctivitis (+10%, or +106 visits), and dehydration (+25%, or +78 visits). The number of emergency room visits for measles remained stable in Week 14.

  • Regarding respiratory conditions, visits for influenza/flu-like illness continued to decline (-11% across all age groups). However, among a limited number of patients, there is still a slight increase in visits among adults for ENT conditions (+7%, or +236 visits), pneumonia (+6%, or +142 visits among those aged 75 and older), and asthma attacks (+10%, or +105 visits among those aged 15–74).

  • Among adults, there has been a slight increase in visits for acute gastroenteritis (+15%, or +192 visits).

  • Among children, the number of visits for viral meningitis has been higher than in previous years for the past three weeks (stable in Week 14 compared to Week 13); the number for scarlet fever has doubled among children under 2 years of age (24 vs. 12 in Week 13). Regarding mental health, there was a slight increase in suicide attempts (+7%, or 199 vs. 186 visits among children under 15).
