Key points:
In Week 17 (April 22–28, 2024), the third week of the Easter break, emergency room visits and hospitalizations following emergency room visits were down among 2- to 14-year-olds (by 9%, or 5,046 visits, and by 6%, or 287 hospitalizations, respectively) and remained stable in other age groups.
Indicators were stable or declining across nearly all age groups.
Notable was the continued increase in visits for chickenpox among children aged 2–14 (+11%, or +45 visits) and adults aged 15–74 (+27%, or +17 visits). Visits for influenza/flu-like illness were also slightly higher among adults aged 15 and older (+21%, or +28 visits), as were visits for dehydration among those aged 75 and older (+14%, or +19 visits).
