Key points:

  • In Week 17 (April 22–28, 2024), the third week of the Easter break, emergency room visits and hospitalizations following emergency room visits were down among 2- to 14-year-olds (by 9%, or 5,046 visits, and by 6%, or 287 hospitalizations, respectively) and remained stable in other age groups.

  • Indicators were stable or declining across nearly all age groups.

  • Notable was the continued increase in visits for chickenpox among children aged 2–14 (+11%, or +45 visits) and adults aged 15–74 (+27%, or +17 visits). Visits for influenza/flu-like illness were also slightly higher among adults aged 15 and older (+21%, or +28 visits), as were visits for dehydration among those aged 75 and older (+14%, or +19 visits).
