Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, October 31, 2016.

Summary

Nationally, a slight increase in mortality was observed during week 41 (October 10–16), primarily among the oldest age groups. However, the numbers remained only slightly higher than expected for this period. During week 42 (October 17–23), mortality appears to have returned to levels close to those expected. This mortality trend is consistent with the usual seasonal pattern of mortality during this period (Figures 1–3).

In week 43 (October 24–30), nearly 1,200 deaths were recorded via electronic certification; however, it is not possible to interpret the trend relative to previous weeks given the low coverage rate for this source.
