Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, May 18, 2021
Key Points
The number of deaths remains significantly higher than expected between weeks S40-2020 and S18-2021 at the national level. The number of deaths stabilized between S13 and S16 and appears to be declining in weeks 17 and 18.
Excess deaths were primarily observed among people aged 65–84 through week 18. The number of deaths in week 18 appears to be declining across all age groups.
In week 18, excess deaths from all causes were observed in 4 regions and 14 metropolitan departments.
The interpretation of mortality trends for week 18 should be treated with caution, given the extended reporting delays associated with the long Ascension Day weekend.
