Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, January 3, 2017.

Summary

Nationwide, mortality in week 51 (December 19–25, 2016) increased across all age groups, particularly among the elderly. This increase is particularly pronounced in the Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes region. These initial observations should be interpreted with caution, as the data are not yet consolidated due to the usual delays in reporting and the holiday season.During week 52 (December 26, 2016, to January 1, 2017), 1,612 deaths were recorded via electronic certification, an increase compared to previous weeks; however, it is not possible to interpret this trend given the low coverage rate for this source.
