Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, August 17, 2021

Key Points

  • Nationally, a moderate excess of all-cause deaths was observed in week 29 (July 19–25), affecting more specifically adults aged 65–84. National figures appear to have returned to within the usual range of fluctuation since week 30 (July 26–August 1).

  • In mainland France, a moderate excess of all-cause deaths is observed in Corsica (Week 31) and in the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region (Weeks 29 and 30). In the overseas territories, the number of all-cause deaths is elevated in French Guiana (Weeks 29 to 31), in Martinique (Weeks 30 and 31), in Guadeloupe, and in Réunion (Week 31). An increase in the number of deaths in Guadeloupe is also observed in the electronic death certificate data for week 31, which continues more markedly in week 32. In Martinique, the number of electronic deaths from all causes appears to be stabilizing at a high level in week 32.
