Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, August 13, 2019

Nationwide, all-cause mortality rose in week 30 (July 22–28), primarily among people aged 65 and older. The regions in the northern half of France are affected (Hauts-de-France, Île-de-France, Normandy, Grand Est, Burgundy-Franche-Comté, Centre-Val de Loire, Pays de la Loire).
In week 31 (July 29–August 5), national mortality appears to have returned to within the usual range of fluctuations.
These observations should be interpreted with caution, as the data are not yet consolidated due to transmission delays. Their purpose is to describe trends in mortality without establishing a link to any ongoing events.
A summary of mortality observed during the two heat waves will be published in the fall.
Based on data from electronic certification, 2,043 deaths were recorded in week 32 (August 5–11, 2019).
