Health Surveillance of Mortality. Weekly Update, April 27, 2021

Key Points

  • The number of deaths remains significantly higher than expected between weeks S40-2020 and S15-2021 at the national level. A new increase in case numbers was observed from week 11 through week S13 and appears to have stabilized in week S14.

  • Excess deaths were primarily observed among people aged 65–84 through week 15. An increase was also noted, though within the usual fluctuation margins, among those aged 15–64 (weeks 12–14) and among those aged 85 and older (weeks 13–14).

  • In week 15, excess deaths from all causes were observed in 6 regions (Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes, Grand-Est, Hauts-de-France, Île-de-France, Normandy, and Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur) and in 16 metropolitan departments.
