Sex Education for Young People: A Comprehensive and Positive Approach [Introduction to the Report]
Sexuality education (SE) takes a comprehensive and positive approach to provide everyone with the life skills essential for a fulfilling emotional, relational, and sexual life. The goal of SEL is to provide all individuals with a foundation of knowledge, attitudes, and skills so that they can develop relationships that respect everyone’s autonomy and safety and that serve as a source of fulfillment. In this special issue of Health in Action, we sought to demonstrate that this diversity is embodied in a comprehensive approach, which practitioners adapt according to their professional settings and the populations they serve, yet which always aligns with a common framework. This framework is that of the International Guidelines on Sexuality Education [1]. Published by the United Nations Educational, Scientific and Cultural Organization (UNESCO). This issue explores the various initiatives of stakeholders contributing to this crucial learning, both in and outside the classroom; it also highlights the diversity of stakeholders and their approaches. Interviews with educators, specialized practitioners, and psychologists underscore the essential multidisciplinary nature required to understand interventions in sexuality education.
