Key Points
Since January 1, 2019, 2,429 cases of measles have been reported (vs. 2,680 during the same period in 2018), including: 702 (29%) hospitalized (31 in intensive care), 168 cases (7%) complicated by pneumonia, 3 cases of encephalitis, including 2 deaths (subacute inclusion encephalitis in two immunocompromised young adults).
The decline in measles virus circulation is confirmed: the epidemic peak was observed in week 21 (151 cases), and since then there has been a decrease in the number of weekly cases, with 12 cases reported in week 34.
91 departments reported at least 1 case during the period.
88% of cases occurred in unvaccinated or inadequately vaccinated individuals (out of a total of 1,713 cases, aged over one year and born since 1980, for whom vaccination status was known).
