Key Points

  • Since January 1, 2019, 953 cases of measles have been reported (vs. 2,186 cases during the same period in 2018), including 299 (31%) hospitalizations (13 in intensive care), 75 cases (8%) complicated by pneumonia, 2 cases of encephalitis, including 1 death (subacute encephalitis in an immunocompromised patient).

  • Measles virus circulation remains active throughout the country, with an average of 70 cases per week over the past four weeks.

  • 86% of cases occurred in unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated individuals (out of a total of 664 cases, aged over one year and born since 1980, for whom vaccination status was known).

  • 76 departments reported at least 1 case during the period.
