Measles Epidemiological Bulletin. Surveillance data as of June 26, 2019
Key Points
Since January 1, 2019, 1,848 cases of measles have been reported (compared to 2,530 cases during the same period in 2018), of which 539 (29%) were hospitalized (25 in intensive care), 131 cases (7%) complicated by pneumonia, and 2 cases of encephalitis, including 1 death (subacute encephalitis in an immunocompromised patient).
The circulation of the measles virus has intensified, with 121 cases (on average) during weeks S18 to S24, compared to 76 cases (on average) during the previous 8 weeks.
86 departments reported at least 1 case during the period.
89% of cases occurred in unvaccinated or inadequately vaccinated individuals (out of a total of 1,296 cases, aged over one year and born since 1980, for whom vaccination status was known).
The occurrence of nosocomial cluster cases underscores the importance of updating vaccination status among healthcare workers.
