Measles Epidemiological Bulletin. Surveillance data as of June 19, 2019
Key Points
Since January 1, 2019, 1,697 cases of measles have been reported (vs. 2,493 cases during the same period in 2018), including 501 (29%) hospitalizations (22 in intensive care), 123 cases (7%) complicated by pneumonia, 2 cases of encephalitis, including 1 death (subacute encephalitis in an immunocompromised patient).
The circulation of the measles virus has intensified, with 115 cases (on average) during weeks S18 through S23, compared to 75 cases (on average) during the previous 8 weeks.
82 departments reported at least 1 case during the period.
87% of cases occurred in unvaccinated or inadequately vaccinated individuals (out of a total of 1,198 cases, aged over one year and born since 1980, for whom vaccination status was known).
The occurrence of nosocomial cluster cases underscores the importance of updating vaccination status among healthcare workers.
