Key Points
Since January 1, 2019, 2,206 cases of measles have been reported, including 637 (29%) requiring hospitalization (29 in intensive care), 156 cases (7%) complicated by pneumonia, and 2 cases of encephalitis, including 1 death (subacute encephalitis in an immunocompromised patient).
The measles virus continues to circulate: the epidemic peak was observed in week 21 (156 cases), and an average of 126 cases per week were reported during weeks 18 through 24. A decrease in reported cases has been observed, particularly since week 25, with an average of 84 cases reported over the last 4 weeks (W25 to W28).
88 departments reported at least 1 case during the period.
87% of cases occurred in unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated individuals (out of a total of 1,550 cases, aged over one year and born since 1980, for whom vaccination status was known).
