Key Points

  • Since January 1, 2019, 2,125 cases of measles have been reported (compared to 2,621 cases during the same period in 2018), including 613 (29%) hospitalizations (29 in intensive care), 152 cases (7%) complicated by pneumonia, 2 cases of encephalitis, including 1 death (subacute encephalitis in an immunocompromised patient).

  • Measles virus circulation remained active, with 124 cases (on average) during weeks 18 through 24. A decrease in reported cases was observed during weeks 25 through 27, with an average of 83 cases over the last 3 weeks. Oscour surveillance data follow the same trend, although during the past week (W28), there was a new rise in the number of cases recorded in emergency departments and by SOS Médecins.

  • 88 departments reported at least 1 case during the period.

  • 87% of cases occurred in unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated individuals (out of a total of 1,442 cases, aged over one year and born since 1980, for whom vaccination status was known).
