Key Points
Since January 1, 2019, 2,047 cases of measles have been reported (vs. 2,598 cases during the same period in 2018), of which 597 (29%) were hospitalized (28 in intensive care), 148 cases (7%) complicated by pneumonia, and 2 cases of encephalitis, including 1 death (subacute encephalitis in an immunocompromised patient).
Measles virus circulation remained active, with an average of 124 cases during weeks 18 through 24. A slowdown appears to have occurred during weeks 25 and 26, with just under 100 cases per week.
88 departments reported at least 1 case during the period.
87% of cases occurred in unvaccinated or incompletely vaccinated individuals (out of a total of 1,442 cases, aged over one year and born since 1980, for whom vaccination status was known).
