Antibiotic Use in the Outpatient Sector in France, 2009–2019. Preliminary Summary of Available Indicators from Géodes

This document presents an update on indicators of outpatient antibiotic use analyzed using the National Health Data System (SNDS). All results are available on Géodes https://geodes.santepubliquefrance.fr/. Several time series of departmental and regional indicators have been corrected, including coding errors reported last year that skewed the count of certain services (student health plans) provided in certain departments. The results for 2019 confirm the trends presented in the 2009–2018 report published in November 2019; expressed as the number of DDJ per 1,000 inhabitants per day, consumption stood at 22.2 DDJ/1,000 inhabitants/day. It remained generally stable between 2009 and 2019, but has recently shown a downward trend; expressed as the number of prescriptions per 1,000 inhabitants per day, consumption stood at 2.31 Pres/1,000 inhabitants/day in 2019. The decline already observed continues and is seen in nearly all age groups.
