Health implications of the presence of lindane in the drinking water supply of the municipality of Belgentier

Exceedances of the groundwater quality limit value set by French regulations have been observed for one substance—lindane—in several water samples taken from the Gavaudan spring, which supplies the municipality of Belgentier in the Var department. To provide guidance to the Var Departmental Directorate of Health and Social Affairs (DDASS) to assist in managing health risks related to pollution in Belgentier, an analysis of the health consequences of lindane was conducted by the Southern Interregional Epidemiology Unit (CIRE). This analysis was primarily based on a quantitative health risk assessment approach, which involves predicting the excess risks faced by a population exposed to one or more pollutants. (R.A.)
