Heat Wave and Health in Provence-Alpes-Côte d'Azur. Update as of August 6, 2024.

Key Points

  • A regional analysis of emergency care utilization indicates that the iCanicule composite health indicator (covering hyperthermia, dehydration, and hyponatremia) remained stable for emergency departments during the heat wave. For SOS Médecins, an increase in heat-related consultations (heatstroke, dehydration) was observed until August 1, followed by a rapid decline.

  • In the departments hosting sporting events as part of the Olympic Games (Alpes-Maritimes and Bouches-du-Rhône), the same trend was observed in emergency departments. Heat-related activity within the SOS Médecins network remained very low (7 and 6 consultations, respectively, during periods of orange heatwave alerts).
