Heat and Health in Corsica: A Review of the Summer of 2025.

Key points

In Corsica (including Southern Corsica, which was not affected by a heat wave):

  • Emergency room visits related to heat waves were recorded throughout the summer. They increased rapidly and significantly as temperatures rose. As a result, 320 emergency room visits related to heat waves were recorded during the summer, 14% of which occurred during heat waves. Half of the visits to Oscour® emergency rooms were followed by hospitalization. All age groups were affected, but people aged 75 and older were the most affected.

  • Over the course of the summer, Corsica was, along with Auvergne-Rhône-Alpes and Nouvelle-Aquitaine, the fourth most affected region in terms of the proportion of deaths attributable to heat, with nearly 4% of all-cause mortality during the summer attributable to heat (an estimated 37 deaths, nearly two-thirds of which occurred among people aged 75 and older).

  • During heat waves, Corsica was the most affected region, with nearly one in five deaths attributable to heat during these episodes (an estimated 14 deaths). Half of these deaths involved people aged 75 and older.
