Key Points

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika

  • There have been no new outbreaks since the last bulletin. As of August 5, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region had recorded 9 outbreaks of local transmission: 6 of chikungunya and 3 of dengue. In total, 22 locally acquired cases of chikungunya and 5 locally acquired cases of dengue have already been identified.

  • Since the start of enhanced surveillance (May 1), 176 imported cases (+5 since the last update) have been identified in the region: 87 cases of dengue, 88 of chikungunya, and 1 case of Zika.

West Nile Virus Infections

  • In S31, the first two cases of West Nile virus infection in the region were recorded in the municipalities of Hyères in the Var and Gardanne in the Bouches-du-Rhône.

  • For the record, in 2024, the Var department had already been affected with 24 locally acquired human cases, mainly in the municipalities in the western part of the department (Ollioules, La Seyne-sur-Mer, Six-Fours-les-Plages, Sanary-sur-Mer, Fayence, Toulon, Saint-Mandrier-sur-Mer).

Heat Wave

  • No heat wave currently underway. Temperatures rising toward the end of the week.

  • Heat-related activity among emergency services and SOS Médecins associations is decreasing in both networks and is below seasonal expectations.
