Key Points

Dengue, Chikungunya, and Zika

  • A new outbreak of local transmission of chikungunya has been identified in Roquebrune-sur-Argens in the Var department.

  • The epidemiological situation in Fréjus has evolved in connection with the second area of circulation identified in the municipality. As of August 26, the total stands at 31 cases (+24 cases).

  • The epidemiological situation has also evolved in Antibes with a second transmission zone in the municipality. As of August 26, there are 20 cases (+13 cases). Following investigations, the outbreak identified in Grasse and Saint-Vallier-de-Thiey is now linked to this new zone.

  • As of August 26, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur (PACA) region has recorded 12 outbreaks of local transmission: 9 of chikungunya (a total of 107 cases, +41 since the last update) and 3 of dengue (a total of 7 cases, +1 since the previous update).

  • Since the start of enhanced surveillance (May 1), 186 imported cases (+4 since the last update) have been identified in the region: 98 cases of dengue, 91 of chikungunya, and 1 case of Zika.

West Nile Virus Infections

  • 1 new case of West Nile virus (WNV) infection has been reported in Bouches-du-Rhône. As of August 26, the Provence-Alpes-Côte d’Azur region has recorded 10 cases of WNV infection.

Heatwave

  • No heat wave currently underway. Emergency department activity is declining in week 34, following the increase in activity during week 33, linked to the heat wave from August 9 to 19, 2025.

Back-to-School Asthma

  • In the PACA region, asthma-related activity at SOS Médecins and in emergency departments among children under 15 is low.
