Carbon monoxide (CO) is an invisible, odorless, and non-irritating gas. It results from the incomplete combustion of carbon-containing materials (natural gas, wood, coal, butane, gasoline, fuel oil, petroleum, propane) caused, for example, by insufficient oxygen in the air, poor exhaust ventilation, or the improper use of internal combustion engines… In homes, the main sources are heating and hot water systems (boilers), cooking appliances (stoves, barbecues), and smoking. Inhalation and the entry of CO into the bloodstream block the transport of oxygen to the tissues and can cause asphyxiation, which can be fatal. [...]
