Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of November 17, 2016.

Over the past week in the region:

The end of the All Saints’ Day school break has contributed to the resurgence of enteric viruses among children, with a renewed increase in the number of SOS Médecins consultations for gastroenteritis in children under 5 years of age last week, remaining above the threshold. This episode, most likely linked to the circulation of norovirus (with vomiting being the predominant symptom), is primarily observed in SOS Médecins data. SOS Médecins consultations and visits to the pediatric emergency department at Nantes University Hospital for bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age remain below the epidemic threshold. A few rare cases of respiratory syncytial virus (RSV) have been reported by the virology laboratories at the Nantes and Angers University Hospitals in recent weeks.Clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) and gastroenteritis (GE) have been reported in long-term care facilities, with 15 new ARI clusters and 9 new GE clusters since the beginning of October.
