Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of January 8, 2014.

Over the past week in the region:

  • The bronchiolitis outbreak peaked in week 52, and we have now seen a decrease in emergency room visits and SOS Médecins consultations over the past week. However, the number of hospitalizations for bronchiolitis following visits to the emergency room at Nantes University Hospital remained very high last week.

  • Start of the community-acquired gastroenteritis outbreak (based on data from SOS Médecins) and outbreaks of gastroenteritis in nursing homes.

  • No significant increase in consultations for flu-like illness. However, two severe cases (A(H1N1)p virus infections) have been reported by intensive care units in the region since mid-December. The first three isolates of influenza A virus at the Nantes University Hospital laboratory during the past week.

  • Confirmation of an increase in invasive meningococcal infections in 2013, particularly of serogroup C.
