Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of January 27, 2015.

Over the past week in the region:

  • Flu activity is increasing in the region, with alert thresholds (SOS doctors and emergency room visits) having been exceeded for four consecutive weeks now, and a significant number of type A influenza virus isolates at Nantes University Hospital. Fourteen cases of severe influenza, including 8 people over the age of 65, have been hospitalized in intensive care since week 52 of 2014. Nationally, the A(H3N2) virus variant is predominant compared to the vaccine strain.

  • There is a moderate persistence of bronchiolitis cases in the region.

  • The outbreak of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) diagnosed by SOS Médecins and emergency departments remains moderate, having been on the decline for the past two weeks.

  • Outbreaks of acute respiratory infections (ARI) and AGE in nursing homes continue to rise, with 16 new outbreaks in the past week.

  • Emergency department activity for people aged 75 and older and children under 1 year of age increased slightly again in week 4, remaining just above the thresholds.

  • Mortality among people aged 85 and older increased between weeks 1 and 4, remaining well above the threshold.
