Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of January 20, 2015.
Over the past week in the region:
Flu activity is on the rise in the region, with alert thresholds (SOS doctors and emergency room visits) having been exceeded for three consecutive weeks. The viruses identified are predominantly type A. Nine cases of severe flu, including six people over the age of 65, have been hospitalized in intensive care since week 52 of 2014.
The bronchiolitis outbreak is subsiding in the region and is expected to end next week.
The outbreak of gastroenteritis (GEA) diagnosed by SOS Médecins and emergency departments remains moderate and has been on the decline since last week.
Outbreaks of ARI (acute respiratory infections) and GEA in nursing homes are increasing significantly, with 27 new outbreaks in the past week, including 17 clusters of ARI cases.
Emergency department activity for people aged 75 and older decreased sharply in week 3, remaining just above the threshold.
Mortality among people aged 85 and older increased in weeks 1 and 2, remaining well above the threshold. The estimate for week 3 confirms this high number of deaths.
