Epidemiological Surveillance in the Pays de la Loire Region. Update as of April 15, 2015.

Over the past week in the region:

  • The flu epidemic is over. There is still some circulation of influenza B viruses. Hospitalizations for severe flu in intensive care units are still being reported.

  • 209 clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) and 97 clusters of acute gastroenteritis (AGE) have been reported since September 1, 2014. Two new ARI outbreaks have been reported since last week. Emergency department visits by people aged 75 and older have increased slightly, rising above alert thresholds in some facilities.

  • The epidemic threshold for gastroenteritis continues to be exceeded, particularly among children under 5 years of age (visits to the pediatric emergency departments at Nantes University Hospital and SOS Médecins), likely linked to an outbreak of rotavirus infections.

  • The number of cases of invasive meningococcal serogroup C infections remains high, linked to insufficient vaccination coverage in the region (55% among 2-year-olds).
