Vaccination Coverage Survey in Réunion in 2022
This report is based on the processing and analysis of data from the general population vaccination coverage survey conducted in Réunion from March 30 to May 28, 2022. The primary objective of this study was to assess vaccination coverage among children aged 24 to 59 months, 7 to 8 years, and 14 to 15 years, as well as among adults aged 19 to 28 years, to guide the implementation of public health policies regarding vaccination. The second objective was to assess whether the vaccination requirement had been met for children born since January 1, 2018. The analyses focused on vaccination data recorded in the immunization record at the time of the field survey. The results of this survey show differences depending on the vaccine type and age group. For diphtheria, tetanus, and polio (DTP), and pertussis and Haemophilus influenzae type b (Hib) vaccines, vaccination coverage meets the 95% target regardless of age group. For Hepatitis B, the vaccination situation is more nuanced, with only 7 out of 10 people in the 14–15 and 19–28 age groups having a complete vaccination schedule. For measles, vaccination coverage is insufficient, particularly among children aged 24–59 months, with an estimated coverage of 82.2%, which could lead to an epidemic risk. For HPV (Human papillomavirus), vaccination coverage remains very low, with only 9.3% of 14- to 15-year-olds and 11.9% of 19- to 28-year-olds having completed the full vaccination series (girls and boys). For certain vaccines (DTP, pertussis, Hib), the results are satisfactory, with estimated vaccination coverage of 95%. Nevertheless, it remains necessary to implement effective communication and prevention strategies for the measles and HPV vaccines. To achieve this, increasing vaccination coverage must first and foremost involve educating healthcare providers.
