Pertussis Situation in Mayotte. Epidemiological Update as of June 5, 2018.

Background

During the first half of November 2017, two cases of pertussis were detected in Mayotte by the surveillance systems of Santé publique France Indian Ocean. The first case was detected in the emergency department of the Mayotte Hospital Center (CHM) through the OSCOUR® network, and the second was reported by one of Mayotte’s sentinel physicians.Given the low vaccination coverage among children under 6 years of age, investigations were conducted in collaboration with the CHM laboratory and the Health Surveillance, Alert, and Management Unit (CVAGS) of the ARS-OI to identify any unusual patterns and/or potential clusters of cases. Preliminary results have revealed a resurgence of pertussis cases since the beginning of 2017 in Mayotte.
