Epidemiological Situation of Bronchiolitis in Mayotte
Since the beginning of April, an increase in visits for bronchiolitis among children under 2 years of age has been observed in the emergency department of the Mayotte Hospital Center. The epidemic peak was reached during week 18 and accounted for nearly 7% of total visits. During week 19, the proportion of visits for bronchiolitis appears to be decreasing and stands at 3%. Data from the Mayotte Hospital Center laboratory confirmed the circulation of respiratory syncytial virus.
Identification of Circulating Dengue and Chikungunya Viruses
On May 14, results from samples collected between March 16 and May 6 were submitted to the ARS health surveillance platform in Mayotte. Among these results, 43 confirmed cases of dengue and 6 confirmed cases of chikungunya were reported. Among the confirmed dengue cases, three samples were serotyped: two DENV-1 and one DENV-2 were identified. This circulation could partly explain the increase in visits for isolated fever observed in weeks 9, 10, and 11
