Malaria Surveillance in Mayotte. Epidemiological Update as of December 10, 2018.
Epidemiological Situation
A marked increase in the number of malaria cases has been reported since 2017 in the Union of the Comoros, primarily on Grande Comore (99% of cases)At a time when there are fears of a resurgence of malaria in Mayotte, special attention must be paid to patients presenting with symptoms suggestive of malaria, for whom a diagnostic test must be routinely performed, particularly in the northwestern part of the island, which is at higher risk of becoming the likely site of a resumption of indigenous transmission of the parasite.Due to the presence of competent vectors, Mayotte remains vulnerable to malaria. Local transmission originating from an imported case cannot be ruled out.
