Epidemiological Situation: Return of the Flu Outbreak in Réunion

In Réunion, the end of the southern hemisphere winter is a typical time for a resurgence of the flu. Over the past two weeks, there has been an increase in visits to private practices for flu-like symptoms. Furthermore, the number of emergency room visits for flu-like symptoms has also been rising since week 34. Since early June 2012, four patients with confirmed severe cases of the flu have been admitted to the intensive care unit. Three of them were discharged with a favorable prognosis; the fourth, who exhibited several other signs of severe illness, has died.
