Key Points

Chikungunya

  • Since August 23, 2024, 13,594 cases of chikungunya have been reported on the island, including 13,445 in 2025. The epidemic continues to spread, with nearly 4,000 cases detected in S11. The epidemic is widespread, with a higher concentration of cases in the south and west.

  • In S11, several cases of chikungunya were reported to us in newborns or infants, some of whom presented with severe clinical symptoms requiring intensive care. Réunion is experiencing a chikungunya epidemic.

Leptospirosis

  • In S-1, 27 cases of leptospirosis had been reported since the beginning of 2025. Since then, 6 new mandatory reports have been received by the ARS and are currently being processed. The seasonal resurgence is late this year and of limited scope compared to 2022 and 2024. To date, it is at a level comparable to 2023.

Acute respiratory infections

  • Acute respiratory infections (ARI): Indicators in primary care and hospitals remain at a low level with no public health impact.
