Health Monitoring in Réunion. Bulletin of March 13, 2026.

Key Points

Mpox

  • Six cases (including two imported cases) were identified in Réunion between S05 and S08/2026.

Leptospirosis

  • A seasonal resurgence of leptospirosis is currently underway at a high level: 75 cases have occurred since the beginning of the year.

Arboviruses: dengue and chikungunya

  • Sporadic local cases of arboviral diseases have been reported since the beginning of the year. To date, 13 local cases of dengue and 20 local cases of chikungunya have been detected.

Malaria

  • Since December, there has been an increase in the number of imported malaria cases, primarily among travelers returning from the Comoros. Nine cases were reported in December and 18 in January. A decline began in February (5 cases to date). We urge all stakeholders to remain vigilant and remind them that, until proven otherwise, any fever upon return from an endemic area should be considered a case of malaria.

  • Health indicators remain at a very low level.

Bronchiolitis in children under 2 years of age

  • Health and virological indicators are low. No health impact.

Gastroenteritis (GE)

  • Activity is increasing across all age groups but remains stable among children under 5 in the hospital.

  • Health and virological indicators continue to decline.
