Health Impact of the Fires in Maïdo in October and November 2011. Epidemiological Update as of January 12, 2012.

Several fires that broke out in the Maïdo massif and at Grande Chaloupe on October 25, 2011, resulted in blazes that destroyed a total of nearly 3,000 hectares of Réunion National Park, a UNESCO World Heritage Site. The affected area extends across the highlands of the municipalities of Saint Paul, Trois Bassins, Saint Leu, Les Avirons, Etang Salé, and Saint Louis.
