Dengue Surveillance in Réunion. Epidemiological Update as of June 26, 2018.
Epidemiological Situation
Since the beginning of 2018, 5,393 biologically confirmed or probable cases of dengue (including 3 imported from the Maldives, Polynesia, and Brazil) have been reported by private and hospital laboratories in Réunion. The only serotype identified in 2018 is DENV-2 (910 genotypes identified). This situation follows an unusual low-level viral circulation during 2017, when persistent transmission was observed during the southern winter.
In week S2018-24 (June 11–17):
309 probable or confirmed cases of dengue were diagnosed through laboratory testing, based on the date of symptom onset.
Confirmed and probable cases were mainly located: - In the west: Bois de Nèfles and La Plaine (45 cases), St-Paul, Gare routière, and Etang (50 cases), Le Port (52 cases), La Possession (29 cases), St-Gilles-les-Bains (15 cases), St-Leu (31 cases), St-Gilles-les-Hauts (4 cases), La Saline (5 cases), - In the south: Ravine des Cabris (7 cases), St-Pierre (8 cases), Etang Salé (3 cases), St Louis (16 cases), Le Tampon (2 cases), Saint-Joseph (7 cases), Les Avirons (2 cases), and St Philippe (3 cases).—In the north, cases continue to be reported: La Montagne (2 cases), Ste Clotilde (2 cases), Saint Denis ville (4 cases), Ste Suzanne (3 cases), and Sainte Marie (1 case).—In the east: St-Benoit (1 case), St-André (1 case).
