COVID-19: Epidemiological Update from the Meeting on October 1, 2020
Key Points
During week 39, while indicators tracking the SARS-CoV-2 epidemic continue to rise nationally, a trend toward stabilization in the incidence rate is observed in Réunion. This trend toward stabilization needs to be confirmed in the coming weeks and should be interpreted with caution given the longer time required to consolidate data (the time between the date of PCR sample collection and the date the result is uploaded to SIDEP). Furthermore, the Reff is below 1, indicating a slowdown in transmission dynamics. Nevertheless, the incidence remains above the alert threshold, alongside an increase in the positivity rate amid declining testing activity.
Viral circulation is increasing among young adults, who stand out with the highest incidence rate in the 15–44 age group, which is on the rise. At the same time, there is a gradual increase in hospital indicators, particularly the number of cases in intensive care, linked to the rise in incidence observed over the past two weeks among older adults.
