COVID-19 and Other Respiratory Viruses in Mayotte: Epidemiological Update as of December 8, 2022

COVID-19

  • Over the past two weeks, the circulation of the SARS-CoV-2 virus has been declining in Mayotte. The incidence rate fell from 160.0 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 47 to 58.1 cases per 100,000 inhabitants in Week 48, representing a 63.7% decrease in one week. This new wave, which began in Week 43, peaked in Week 46 with an incidence rate that, for the first time since Week 03-2022, exceeded 200 cases per 100,000 inhabitants (incidence rate in Week 46: 205.8 cases per 100,000 inhabitants).

Influenza

  • Epidemic phase.

  • Virological surveillance of influenza in hospitals showed stable circulation of influenza viruses in Week 48 (n=40), predominantly type A(H1N1). The positivity rate decreased slightly from 31% in Week 47 to 27% in Week 48.

Bronchiolitis

  • Epidemic phase.

  • Virological surveillance of Respiratory Syncytial Virus (RSV) in the hospital showed a sharp increase between week 47 (n=7) and week 48 (n=25). The onset of the bronchiolitis epidemic is early, as the typical season for bronchiolitis usually runs from January to April.
