Chikungunya and Dengue in Réunion. Bulletin of March 26, 2025.

Key Points

  • Since August 23, 2024, 13,594 cases of chikungunya have been reported on the island, including 13,445 in 2025. The epidemic continues to spread, with more than 4,000 cases detected in Week 11. The epidemic is widespread, with a higher concentration of cases in the south and west.

  • In week 11, several cases of chikungunya were reported to us in newborns and infants, some of whom presented with severe clinical conditions requiring intensive care. Although these cases are consistent with the expected course of the epidemic given its dynamics and current understanding of the disease, their severity necessitates a focus on preventive measures.

  • Since the beginning of the year, the circulation of dengue has remained limited.
