Chikungunya and Dengue in Réunion. Bulletin dated April 2, 2025.
Key Points
Since the beginning of 2025, more than 20,000 cases of chikungunya have been reported on the island. The epidemic continues to spread, with 5,832 cases detected in S12. The epidemic is widespread and spreading everywhere.
Since week 11, fourteen cases of chikungunya have been reported to us in newborns or infants, some of whom presented with severe clinical symptoms requiring intensive care. Although these cases are consistent with the expected course of the epidemic given its dynamics and current understanding of the disease, their severity necessitates a focus on preventive measures.
Activities related to chikungunya in primary care, emergency departments, and hospitals continue to increase.
Dengue circulation is currently low on the island, with only about thirty cases detected since the beginning of the year and no cases in S12. All cases were geographically dispersed.
