The Tsingoni Community Health Program in Mayotte: Working Together to Develop Solutions That Residents Can Take Ownership Of [Interview].

In Mayotte, an organization supported by the Regional Health Agency (ARS) is conducting door-to-door visits in two villages with the help of community workers, community liaisons, and health and social service professionals, as part of a pilot community program. The challenge here is to reach out to communities in a highly disadvantaged area where some residents live in makeshift tin-roofed shelters without running water and lack access to basic rights and healthcare. An external evaluation demonstrates the validity of this approach. However, before supporting residents in changing their behaviors, it would be appropriate to at least provide these areas with infrastructure (drinking water, etc.) that allows them to take care of their health on a daily basis.
