Mayotte: A mobile clinic providing medical and social services and sexual health education.
With the aim of reaching out to the public and encouraging people to take charge of their own health, a mobile clinic—in the form of a traveling truck—was launched in 2011. This initiative allows people in remote areas to access sexual health consultations in a specific context: in fact, for cultural reasons, pregnancy is generally kept hidden during the first three months, which significantly delays the start of care. The truck’s primary mission is therefore to encourage early prenatal care. The fact that healthcare professionals are brought right into the neighborhoods is widely welcomed by residents.
