Emergency Department Activity Update:

This week, once again, situations of overcrowding and strain were reported at several hospitals in the region. Although the daily indicators by department presented on page 2 of this bulletin do not show any particular increase, the weekly analyses by facility indicated, again this week, a continued rise in the admission and hospitalization of patients aged 75 and older.

Monitoring of seasonal illnesses:

  • Influenza: The influenza epidemic is clearly on the rise in Languedoc-Roussillon. The epidemic threshold was crossed again last week, and the incidence rate estimated by the unified Sentinelles/Grog network continues to rise, as do the number of emergency room visits and calls to SOS Médecins. Numerous clusters of acute respiratory infections (ARI) in senior care facilities were reported to the ARS this week, some with high attack rates exceeding 50% of residents falling ill.

  • Gastroenteritis: although data from the Sentinelles/Grog unified network show a downward trend in incidence, visits to emergency departments and calls to SOS Médecins remain high in Languedoc-Roussillon.

  • Bronchiolitis: According to emergency department visit data, the bronchiolitis outbreak among children under 2 years of age is ending in the region.

Mortality monitoring:

In the general population, there is no unusual increase in the overall number of deaths or among those aged 75 and older.
