Mental Health in the Occitanie Region. Bimonthly Epidemiological Update, August 24, 2023.

Key Points

  • Stability in emergency department visits for mental health issues among adults (18 years or older) from April to June 2023, as well as compared to the same months in previous years. Among children (under 18), however, monthly numbers were on the rise compared to the previous three years. A sharp increase in visits for this reason was noted in April 2023 for children under 10.

  • Stability in emergency department visits for suicidal acts during the first half of the year, with the exception of a peak in March 2023, and monthly figures lower than in previous years.

  • A sharp increase in the number of emergency department visits for suicidal ideation since early 2023 (ages 11 and older) compared to the first half of previous years. Variations compared to the same months of the first half of 2022 ranged from +9% in May to +46% in June.

  • Increase in emergency department visits for mood disorders in early 2023 compared to the first half of previous years, with varying trends across age groups.

  • Monthly numbers remained stable compared to previous years, except for the month of March. An upward trend was observed among children under 10, although numbers for this group remained very low.
