Health Surveillance of Arboviral Diseases in the Occitanie Region. Epidemiological Update as of September 25, 2020.
Key Highlights
From May 1 to November 30 each year, Santé publique France coordinates, in conjunction with the relevant Regional Health Agencies (ARS), enhanced seasonal surveillance of chikungunya, dengue, and Zika in metropolitan departments colonized by the vector mosquito, Aedes albopictus.
In Occitanie, since May 1, 2020, 67 imported cases of dengue have been confirmed: the affected individuals were returning from Martinique (39), Guadeloupe (9), French Guiana (8), Saint Barthélemy (6), Réunion (3), Mauritania (1), and Costa Rica (1). No cases of chikungunya or Zika have been identified.
Nationwide, from May 1 to September 25, 2020, the following were confirmed:
420 imported cases of dengue,
5 imported cases of chikungunya,
1 imported case of Zika.
In Occitanie, following a first case of locally transmitted dengue in Hérault in August, a second case of locally transmitted dengue, unrelated to the first, was identified in Gard in September. Nationwide, two outbreaks of locally transmitted dengue were identified in PACA (5 cases in Alpes-Maritimes and 1 case in Var).
