Acute Respiratory Infections and Gastroenteritis in Occitanie. Bulletin of January 30, 2025.

Key Points

Acute Respiratory Infections

  • In week 04, activity for acute respiratory infections across all age groups was on the rise in primary care and in hospitals. A very large proportion of ARI activity was linked to consultations for influenza viruses (76% at SOS Médecins and 57% in emergency departments).

Bronchiolitis

  • Occitanie is in the post-epidemic phase.

  • The slight increase in indicators from emergency departments and SOS Médecins can be explained by the active circulation of other viruses, particularly influenza viruses, which can lead to bronchiolitis, while the detection of RSV was decreasing in both laboratory networks.

Influenza and influenza-like illness

  • The Occitanie region was in S04 during its 7th epidemic week. All indicators showed a sharp increase this week. Indicator levels were very high. They exceeded the levels observed since the start of the season and were significantly higher than those observed during the epidemic peaks of the two previous seasons. In hospitals, the increase in S04 follows a decrease and subsequent stabilization of indicators over a short period in S02 and S03.

  • In contrast to last week, when the increase in indicators was mainly observed among those under 15, this week the increase in emergency room visits and SOS Médecins calls affects all age groups. Regarding visits for flu-like symptoms followed by hospitalization, this indicator was rising only among those aged 65 and older.

Covid-19

  • In week 04, regional indicators remained stable at a low level.

Gastroenteritis and Acute Diarrhea

  • In the Occitanie region, the incidence rate of acute diarrhea cases seen in general practice and visits to emergency care facilities were generally stable over the past few weeks. SOS Médecins calls decreased in week 04 compared to the previous week, but this trend needs to be confirmed next week. The trend in indicators was similar among adults and young children (under 5 years of age).
